(Wednesday 31st July - Monday 5th August 2019)
Our Escorted Tour is a great way of experiencing Rally Finland and ensuring that you get to the very best of the spectacular high-speed action. Our experienced team will have meticulously planned the tour itinerary weeks beforehand after visiting the stages and hand-picking a selection of the best viewing areas available. We will visit many of the 'classic' Rally Finland stages using our agreements with local landowners & the Rally Organisers to access some fantastic viewing areas, and reduce the walking for our Guests!
The opening 4 nights of the tour will be spent at the 3 star Hotel Keurusselka, located 'lakeside' in the heart of the Finnish countryside around an hour West of Jyvaskyla, but within 15 minutes drive of some of the 'classic' 1000 Lakes stages. Then, we will relocate and spend the legendary Sunday (party!) night right in the centre of the Jyvaskyla HQ town at one of the 4 star hotels which are home to some of the WRC teams and drivers!
Please note that to keep costs down for our single guests, single rooms will be located in the more basic 'lakeside' block of the hotel.
Please click on the Red Button above, or call our Reservations Team on 01765 640055 to book your package.
After meeting with one of our Rally Travel Tour Guides at Helsinki airport the tour begins with a 4 hour bus transfer North to our hotel in the rally area, through the beautiful Finnish countryside. In 2018 we included an comfort stop at the Mobilia Car Museum & Rally of Fame, where guests received their Pre-Rally Briefing AND an exclusive 'after hours' look around the museum! The Pre-Rally Briefing included the latest news & gossip from the build up to the rally, and a run through the weekend's itinerary.
Thursday is always an action packed opening day of the rally with a visit to the SHAKEDOWN Stage, a great opportunity to see the cars at speed several times over the same stage. The informal atmosphere at Shakedown is replicated in the WRC Service Area which we visit later in the morning for a couple of hours, a great opportunity to grab some photographs and that all-important 'Selfie' in a relaxed setting before the rally starts. There is usually also a chance to visit Rally HQ and soak up the atmosphere in Jyvaskyla as the tension began to rise before the start.
In the afternoon we usually host a 'Welcome Event' which in 2018 featured WRC Driver Hayden Paddon, 'Rally Legend' Simo Lampinen and WRC AllLive's Julian Porter. It's an exclusive event just for our Tour guests and leads nicely into the opening stage of the rally - traditionally the Jyvaskyla 'Street Stage' Harju which brings to an end our first day at the rally.
When the rally starts properly on Friday morning it seems like the whole of Finland has got swept along with the excitement, and in 2018 in teh morning was centred close to the Hotel Keurusselka. We began the day with a visit to the Assamaki stage where the cars launched off the start-line over a series of small crests. Over lunch we visited the Oittila stage for 2 different viewing options including a high-speed approach to a lake-side hairpin (see image) and 2 high speed flowing bends on a wide road.
The day was completed with a third stage - the super-fast Aaanekoski stage to the North of Jyvaskyla where the cars flew through some typically Rally Finland high-speed flowing bends before the finish line.
Saturday on Rally Finland is usually all about the legendary Ouninpohja stage, which needs no introduction to rally fans! Traditionally, we visit the mid-stage viewing area at Mutanen junction in the morning however, this was closed to the rally in 2018 so instead we visited the huge viewing area centred around the Kakaristo junction. Here we had access to around 2km of stage including the fast approach to the famous hairpin at the junction and then all the way past the spectacular 'Tommi's Jump' (see image from 2018 tour guest James Rotheram) through to the finish line.
We stayed at Kakaristo to see ever-popular 'Vetomies' National rally cars through the stage, leaving late in the afternoon after having seen over 200 cars tackle the awesome stage.
In the evening, a late finish for us in 2018 with the chance to either visit the WRC Service Area for our optional (£55pp) 'VIP Visit to the M-Sport WRC Team' or another look at the Harju Street Stage.
In 2018 the PowerStage moved to the iconic Ruuhimaki stage with it's famous series of jumps featured on many a rally photograph over the past 40 years or so. We visited the stage early in the morning for the 1st run of the stage, many guests electing to view at the jumps, and then stayed for the spectacular PowerStage watching at the amazing new jump (a recreation of the famous 'white house' jump) on the finish line - see image!
After the rally in 2019 we will return to Jyvaskyla and check-in for the night at one of the hotels that the teams use (Sokos Alexandra Hotel in 2018) just across the road from the Service Area and Rally HQ, where many of the top WRC crews stay. Staying in the centre of Jyvaskyla for the most important social night of the WRC season should make for a fantastic end to the 2019 Escorted Tour, and believe us when we say... if you're visiting Rally Finland the very last thing you want to do is travel home on Sunday evening!
There is always plenty of swapping of stories on the final run back to Helsinki Airport on the Monday morning, relating to both the action on the stages and the post-rally celebrations the previous evening! Our Rally Travel Tour Guides will have kept everyone informed of all the news and results from each day of the rally throughout the tour, and the all-important daily running order via our SMS text messaging service - ideal for when there's no 3G or 4G coverage at the stages!
As we have Rally Fans joining our Tours from all over the World, we do not include flights in any of our packages. Guests can choose and book flights themselves which best suit their requirements, so long as they work around our Escorted Tour's designated airport and transfer times/dates. For Self-Drive Tours there is added flexibility as there are no airport transfer restrictions.
We suggest www.skyscanner.net to find flight options, and then check direct with the airline websites for true availability and prices.
If you can not find suitable flights on the days that are required then you can extend your stay on most of our tours - please click here to email us your requirements for additional nights at the destination.
